A Message from Principal Sumida

Dear Garfield Community,

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year!  As I begin my second year as principal of Garfield, I am filled with gratitude, excitement, and optimism for what lies ahead.  Last year, we began the incredible journey together as Garfield became a middle school serving students in grades 5-8.  Together, we laid a strong foundation built on relationships, belonging, and a shared commitment to helping every student thrive.  This year, we continue that journey by building upon those roots and reaching even greater heights.

Our school theme, Rooted in Belonging, reminds us that every student, family, and staff member deserves to feel welcomed, valued, and connected.  When students know they belong, they are empowered to take risks, grow as learners, develop confidence, and discover their unique talents.  At Garfield, belonging will remain at the heart of everything we do, shaping our classrooms, extracurricular opportunities, and partnerships with families and the community.
